Advancement

Scouting provides a series of surmountable learning objectives and steps in overcoming them through advancement. Scouts plan their own advancement and progress at their own pace as they meet each challenge. Scouts are recognized and rewarded for each achievement, which helps them gain self-confidence.

Awards

The BSA Awards program offers Scouts the opportunity to expand their knowledge, skills and self-confidence beyond rank advancement. There are more than 40 awards available across a variety of interest, including aquatics, conservation, STEM and community service.

Merit Badges

You can learn about sports, crafts, science, trades, business, and future careers as you earn merit badges. There are more than 135 merit badges, and any Scout may earn any of these at any time. Scouts wishing to achieve the rank of Eagle are required to earn 21 merit badges.

The uniform and insignia gives a Scout visibility and creates a level of identity within both the unit and the community. The uniform is used to promote equality while showing individual achievement. Learn about proper insignia and patch placement to help your Scout look their best.
